Welcome to NBT Host! Below is the checklist for your first few days, and each step takes a few minutes. If you prefer, we'll install WordPress or move your website from your old hosting for you, free of charge. If you're coming from cPanel hosting, first read Enhance instead of cPanel: where to find everything: it shows you where to find each tool in Enhance.

What you'll achieve

  • your account is protected by your password and a code from your phone;
  • your domain points to the server and has an SSL certificate (https);
  • you have your first email addresses, set up on your phone and computer, and the messages they send are signed (DKIM);
  • your website is online.

Before you start

  • You need our welcome message: it contains the panel address, the email address you log in with and the password.
  • If you didn't buy your domain from us, you'll need access to your account with the company you bought it from.
  • On your phone you'll need an authenticator app: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or a similar one.

We use the English names from the Enhance interface, exactly as they appear on screen. The panel opens in your browser's language. If it opens in another language, switch it to English from the account menu, top right: “My account” » “Language”.

Checklist

On the first day

  1. Log in to Enhance at https://server.nbt-host.com, with the email address and password from the welcome message. Details in How to log in to Enhance and Webmail.
  2. Change the password you received. Click the account icon at the top right, then “My account”. Under “Password”, click “Reset”, enter your current password and the new one, then “Save”. The steps are in Your Enhance password and two-factor authentication.
  3. Turn on two-factor authentication, also from “My account”: “Enable two-factor authentication”.
  4. Check the address you log in with. Password reset links are sent to it. If the address you ordered with is on the very domain you're now moving to us, make sure you can still read it during the move, for example from Webmail.
  5. Point your domain to us. At the company you bought the domain from, set the nameservers:

    • ns1.nbt-host.ro
    • ns2.nbt-host.ro

    If you bought the domain from us, we've already set them. The change usually shows up within a few hours, but it can take up to 48 hours. If you want to keep your DNS elsewhere, for example at Cloudflare, write to us and we'll send you the exact records. Do the same for .de domains, which can't use our nameservers for now.

Once the domain points to the server

  1. Check the SSL certificate. Go to “Websites”, click the domain, then the “Security” tab. Under “SSL certificates”, next to the domain, the “Certificate” column should show “Let's Encrypt” (“Self signed” is the temporary certificate, even if the status is still “Active”). The free Let's Encrypt certificate is issued automatically once the domain points to the server. If you don't want to wait, choose “Request Let's Encrypt certificate”. Once the certificate is active, you can turn on “Force https” in the same place, so visitors always land on https:// (see Redirecting to HTTPS and www).
  2. Create your email addresses. In the left-hand menu, click “Emails”, then “Add account”: enter the address, leave the type as “Mailbox”, choose the mailbox space (“Mailbox size”) and the password, then click “Add”. The steps are in How to create an email account in Enhance. The Starter plan includes 10 email addresses, and the other plans have unlimited addresses.
  3. Set up email on your phone and computer. In the “Emails” list, click “Manage” next to the address, then “Email client settings”: there you'll see the exact servers and ports. In short:

    • username: the full email address;
    • server: mail.domeniul-tau.ro if the domain uses our nameservers, otherwise server.nbt-host.com;
    • incoming: IMAP on port 993 (SSL) or POP3 on port 995 (SSL). We recommend IMAP, so messages also stay on the server;
    • outgoing: SMTP on port 465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS), with authentication.

    The sending limit is 200 emails per hour from each address. For large newsletters, use a dedicated service.

  4. Check the DKIM signature. On the website page, in the “Domains” tab, click the domain and go to the “Email authentication” section. We enable it on your account's main domain at activation; on aliases and subdomains you add yourself, DKIM isn't enabled from the start. If the toggle next to “DKIM” is off, turn it on. If the domain uses our nameservers, the DNS record is added automatically and “Validated” appears next to DKIM; SPF is already in the DNS zone. If your DNS is elsewhere, Enhance shows you in the same section the record name (hostingcp._domainkey) and its value, to add as a TXT record at your DNS provider, and we'll help you with it. You can also see the status in the “Emails” list, next to each address: the green check next to DKIM means “Authentication is enabled”. Details in Why my emails go to spam: SPF, DKIM, DMARC.
  5. Put your website online:
    • for WordPress, on the website page, in the “Apps” tab, click “Install app” and choose WordPress (see Installing WordPress from Enhance);
    • for another type of website, upload the files to the public_html folder from the “Files” tab (see Uploading a website with File Manager);
    • or ask us to install WordPress or move your website from your old hosting. It's free; the migration conditions are on the Free migration page.
  6. Choose the PHP version, if your website needs a specific one. On the website page, in the “Developer tools” tab, under “PHP” (“Change the PHP version for your website”), choose 8.2, 8.3 or 8.4. The default version is 8.3. Details in PHP version and PHP settings.
  7. Learn how backups work. We make daily backups and restore from a copy from the last 7 days free of charge. You can also see the backups in the website's “Backups” tab. Details in Backup and restore in Enhance.
  8. Save the support contacts: WhatsApp and phone +40 775 396 021, email suport@nbt-host.com. Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00–18:00 Romanian time (EET/EEST).

If something doesn't work

  1. You can't log in to Enhance. You log in with the email address you ordered with, not with a username. See How to log in to Enhance and Webmail.
  2. The domain still shows the old website or doesn't open at all. DNS updates gradually. Check with the company you bought the domain from that you saved exactly ns1.nbt-host.ro and ns2.nbt-host.ro, then wait a little longer. You can also check over mobile data.
  3. The domain shows a page with a 403 error. That's normal for a new account: the public_html folder is empty until you upload your website or install WordPress.
  4. The browser says the connection isn't secure. The certificate is issued only after the domain points to the server. Check the “Security” tab, under “SSL certificates”, and choose “Request Let's Encrypt certificate”. If the problem is still there after a day, write to us.
  5. Emails you send end up in Spam. Check step 9: DKIM must be enabled and validated. If your DNS is elsewhere, the DKIM and SPF records must be added there.
  6. You can't create any more email addresses. You've reached your plan's limit (10 addresses on Starter). Write to us and we'll move you to a bigger plan.
