What you get
A WordPress site on your domain, with the database created automatically and direct access to the WordPress dashboard from Enhance, without uploading files or configuring anything by hand. The installation is done by the WordPress toolkit, the WordPress tool in Enhance (the equivalent of WP Toolkit in other panels).
Would you rather not do it yourself? WordPress installation is free on every plan: just contact us and we will do it. The plans and what they include are on the WordPress hosting page.
Before you start
- You need the Enhance account details from the welcome message: your email address and password.
- The domain must point to our server, meaning it must use the nameservers ns1.nbt-host.ro and ns2.nbt-host.ro. Only then can it receive the free SSL certificate, so the site opens with
https://. After you change the nameservers, propagation can take up to 48 hours. - Install into an empty folder. On a new account, the site’s folder,
public_html, is empty. If you already have files there, first back them up from the site’s “Backups” tab. - WordPress uses a database. The Starter plan includes 5, and the other plans have an unlimited number.
- The names in this guide are the ones from the Enhance interface in English, written exactly as they appear. If Enhance opens in another language, you can switch it to English: click your photo or initials at the top right, then “My account”, and choose the language under “Language”.
The steps
- Log in to Enhance at https://server.nbt-host.com with your account’s email address and password.
- In the left menu, click “Websites”, then your website.
- Open the “Apps” tab and click “Install app”.
- The “Install new app” page opens. Fill in:
- “Application”: leave “WordPress”. For an online store, you can choose “WooCommerce + WordPress”: WordPress is installed with the WooCommerce plugin already added (what else to set up for a store: WooCommerce store: the plan, installation and settings);
- “WordPress version”: leave the version marked “Latest”;
- “Domain”: choose the domain. Leave the box next to it, which starts with
/, empty. That way, the site opens directly atdomeniul-tau.ro. If you enter a folder there, for exampleblog, the site will be atdomeniul-tau.ro/blog.
- Under “WordPress admin account”, you create the account you will use to log in to WordPress:
- “Username”: choose something other than
admin, so it is harder to guess; - “Email address”: an address you actually read. Password resets and WordPress notifications are sent to it;
- “Password” and “Confirm password”: the key button next to the password generates a long one and fills it into both boxes. Write it down now, in a safe place.
- “Username”: choose something other than
- Click “Install” and wait for the confirmation message. The site then appears in the “Apps” tab.
- On the site’s card, click “Login to admin”. You go straight into the WordPress dashboard, without entering a password. Next time, you can also log in at
https://domeniul-tau.ro/wp-admin, with the username and password from step 5. - Enhance does not ask for the site title and language during installation. You set them in WordPress, under Settings » General: Site Title for the site’s name and Site Language for the language (choose your language, for example English (United States)). Click Save Changes. From then on, the WordPress dashboard is also in that language.
Minor WordPress updates, the security ones, install automatically: this is the default setting for every installation from Enhance. How to change them and how to turn on automatic updates for plugins and themes is covered in the guide “WordPress updates and security in Enhance”. If you would rather have someone else handle updates, WordPress maintenance does them for you, with a backup of the site before each update.
If something doesn't work
- The browser shows “Not secure” or a certificate warning. The domain does not point to our server yet or the certificate has not been issued yet. Check the nameservers with the company you bought the domain from. The certificate steps are in the guide “Free SSL certificate”.
- The site address starts with
http://, nothttps://. Once the certificate is issued, open the site’s card in the “Apps” tab. Under “General”, next to “Site URL”, click the pencil, enter the address withhttps://and click “Change”. - The installation fails and the message mentions the database or a limit. You have used all the databases in your plan (5 on Starter). Delete an unused one from the “Databases” tab or move to a bigger plan.
- The domain still shows the old site or a blank page. The domain still points to the old hosting or the nameserver change has not propagated yet (up to 48 hours). You can check the nameservers with the company you bought the domain from.
- You forgot the administrator password. The “Login to admin” button on the site’s card takes you into WordPress without a password. There, you change it under Users » Profile. You can also change it from Enhance: on the WordPress site’s page, under “WordPress users”, choose the user and “Change password”.
- You do not see the “Apps” tab. On narrower screens, the tabs that do not fit move into the “Advanced” menu, at the end of the row of tabs. If it is not there either, contact us.
