From a single hosting account you can have several addresses and, on plans that allow it, several websites. In Enhance, each website has its own page, and a website's addresses are under “Domains”.
What you'll get
- a subdomain (for example
blog.domeniul-tau.ro) with its own folder, or a new website on another domain, in the same account; - a free SSL certificate and, if you want, email addresses on the new domain;
- you know how many your plan allows and how to delete a domain.
What each one is
| What you create | Example | Where you do it | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subdomain | blog.domeniul-tau.ro | website » “Domains” » “Add domain” | a new address under your domain, with its own folder |
| New website (additional domain) | al-doilea-site.ro | “Websites” » “Add website” | a separate website, with its own files, PHP and backups, in the same account |
| Alias | domeniul-tau.com | website » “Domains” » “Add domain” | the same website, under one more domain |
For an alias, a redirect to the main domain is usually better: you can tick it right when you create the alias (see the steps). Google prefers a single address for the same content.
On Bulk plans, “Add domain” also offers the “Addon” type: another domain, with its own folder, in the same website. On the other plans, a website on another domain is created with “Add website”.
How many your plan allows
| Plan | Websites | Subdomains | Aliases |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 (no additional websites) | 10 | 5 |
| Store | 3 | unlimited | 10 |
| Multi-site | 15 | unlimited | unlimited |
| Cloud 1 / 2 / 3 | 30 / 60 / 100 | unlimited | unlimited |
| Bulk | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited |
The plan's disk space, email accounts and databases are shared by all websites in the account. All plans, side by side, are in the comparison on the Web hosting page.
Before you start
For a new website or an alias, the domain must be registered. Enhance doesn't check where the domain points when you add it, so the right order is:
- add it in Enhance (steps below): this also creates its DNS zone;
- upload the website, if needed;
- point the domain to us (see How to point your domain to NBT Host). The SSL certificate appears once the change has propagated.
If a website hosted elsewhere is currently running on that domain, tell us first: we can do the move for you.
- For a subdomain, nothing else is needed. If the domain uses our nameservers, Enhance adds the A record for the subdomain automatically. If your DNS is elsewhere, add an A record for the subdomain there, pointing to
185.230.138.193. - Log in to Enhance: https://server.nbt-host.com. The names below are in English, exactly as they appear on screen. If the panel opens in another language (it follows your browser language), switch it to English from the account menu, top right: “My account” » “Language”.
Steps: create a subdomain or an alias
- In Enhance, open “Websites” from the left-hand menu and click the site.
- In the website's top bar, click “Domains” (on a narrower screen you will find it in the “Advanced” menu).
- Click “Add domain”.
- Choose the type: “Subdomain” or “Alias”. Only the types your plan allows are shown.
- Fill in “Domain”:
- for a subdomain, write only the front part (
blog); Enhance adds the website's main domain automatically; - for an alias, write the full domain (
domeniul-tau.com), withoutwww.and withouthttp://: thewwwversion works automatically.
- for a subdomain, write only the front part (
- For a subdomain, “Document root” also appears: the folder where its files are stored. Enhance suggests a folder named after the subdomain (
blog.domeniul-tau.ro), next topublic_html, not inside it. Keep the suggestion: the subdomain's files stay separate from the main website. - For an alias, the “Redirect to the primary domain …” checkbox appears. Tick it if you want the alias to send visitors to the main domain with a 301 redirect; leave it unticked if you want the same website on both addresses.
- Click “Add”. Enhance confirms that the domain has been added (“added”), and it appears in the list.
Steps: add a website on another domain
- In Enhance, open “Websites” and click “Add website”.
- Choose the subscription (the plan). Next to it you can see how many websites you have used out of how many it allows.
- Choose how the website starts: “Start from scratch” (an empty website) or “Install an app” (for example WordPress, see Installing WordPress from Enhance).
- In “Domain”, write the domain, without
www.. - Click “Add”. The new website appears under “Websites”, with its own page, folders and settings.
After you create it
- Put the website in its folder: on the website page, “Files”, then the folder from step 6 (for a subdomain) or
public_html(for a new website). Or install WordPress, as described in Installing WordPress from Enhance. - The SSL certificate appears on its own, usually within a few minutes after the domain points to us. You can see it on the website page, under “Security” » “SSL certificates” (see The free SSL certificate (Let's Encrypt)).
- HTTPS: once the certificate appears, turn on “Force https” for the new domain, also under “SSL certificates” (see Redirect to HTTPS and www).
- Email on the new domain: on the website page, under “Emails” (see How to create an email account in Enhance).
Change the folder or delete a domain
- Different folder: under “Domains”, click the domain and change the path in the “Document root” section, then “Save”. The folder must already exist (otherwise you get “This directory does not exist on your website.”), and the files are not moved automatically. Don't change the folder of an alias: Enhance would turn it into an addon domain, which only Bulk plans have.
- Deleting: under “Domains”, “⋯” on the domain's row » “Delete” (or the “Delete” button at the end of the domain page), then confirm. Enhance warns you that the domain and the email addresses on it will be deleted, so save the messages you need first. A website's main domain can't be deleted from here.
- An entire website, added with “Add website”, is deleted from its own page (“Overview”), with “Delete”. Deletion is permanent, including files and emails, so write to us first if you are not sure.
If something doesn't work
- “This domain already exists on the platform. Please contact support to verify you are the owner of this domain name.” The domain is already on our server, in another account or another website. Write to us.
- “It looks like this domain already exists.” The domain or subdomain is already in the website's list.
- “You have reached your package's limit of websites”, the fields in “Add domain” are grayed out, or the type you want is missing. You have used everything your plan allows (on Starter: a single website). You can still create whatever is left, or move to a bigger plan.
- “Please enter your domain without http:// or www. prefixes, these will work automatically”. Write only the domain, in the form
domeniul-tau.com. - The new website shows “403 Forbidden”. Its folder is empty: upload the files to the folder from step 6 or to the new website's
public_html. - The subdomain doesn't open at all, or “Domains” shows “DNS issue”. If the domain's DNS is elsewhere, the A record for the subdomain is missing. Add it at your DNS provider and wait for propagation.
